Transition Town Leamington

Ooops - we should have put in an application for a stall by 31st March. Are people up for doing this over the weekend of 19th and 20th June? I think it was an excellent outreach opportunity last year so not to be missed really.

However, we need to pay for the stall - £50. And if we want an ad again in the magasine this could be anything from £20 for 1/4 page B&W to £120 for full page colour. Do we have some slush fund / income from Tshirt sales cash to pay for the stall at least in the immediate term?

And what ideas does anyone have for an interesting and dynamic stall? Pedal powered computer to sign in to the Ning site? Carbon confessional with a green nun? Visual display with the Fahsion Show entry outfit? PRoduction of some new display materials? AND we have been requested to run a "Green Award" for other stalls at teh festival (non charity stalls) which needs some organising.

Feedback! Ideas! Offers of help! Please!!

Thanks, Kath

Hey Kath,

I just happen to know that Jane (and another Kath) spent all day on Monday doing stall allocation for the Peace Festie and when I asked her where TTL were going to be she said that they'd had no application from you. As such, I think it may just be a bit too late now...

Worth asking I guess, but I do know they have already turned people away because of late applications.

Great ideas! Do we have a date for the festival? Are we doing the solar cinema again also? There are funds available, though a formal proposal for the Town Council will still be necessary to reclaim funds from our new TC budget. May I suggest an allowance for fliers to hand out. Do we need to budget for anything for the cinema, more battery power etc.? The Fashion outfit will be fine.

I suggest a combined steering/comms meeting for next week and another in 2 weeks time, given the urgency, recent difficulties of getting a comms meeting together, and that technically we need a later steering meeting to actually approve funding.
Can comms people interested in the peace festival do the 20th April and the 4th May?
First you must find out if the organisers will let us have a stall. I think it is reasonable to pay £50 but not to take out an advert.
I am pretty sure we have the stall confirmed and that it will actually be free if we do the Green Award idea. I cant make the meeting tomorrow so will call a separate meeting just on this. If you dont want to fund an ad then thats fine. Its probably too late for the cinema as they wont have set aside the space for it, and we cant really borrow the geodome from Canalside now its a permanent fixture. Hence the call for new ideas.
Hi Kath, and Dan, if you're out there? If the solar equipment is available, then how about t straw bale cinema? It's such a great thing! Subject to the Peace festival organisers approving... New ideas too, of course!
Juliet
Hi Juliet - we have actually been thinking about the idea of a straw bale cinema for the Small is Festival in Sept. We could give it a go at the Peace Festival. But there may be a problem this late in the day getting permission. Especially as straw bales are not actually allowed at the peace festival! Anyhow - Dan will ask Jane and John this week as they are the ones planning the layout of the site. Will keep you posted.
Here is an update on Peace Festival progress as I will probably not make it to the meeting tonight. We have a stall - but only just!! There will be no room for a cinema as we didnt get our application in early. The stall is free as we have also agreed to run a new Green Award for the Festival. This involves interviewing all food and goods (i.e. not information / campaigns) stall holders about their environmental practice and awarding the winner. Sarah Wilkerson and I have volunteered to lead on this aspect.
It would be good if one or two others could lead on setting up and managing a stall on TTL - basically information about what what TTL is, how people can get involved, what other things they can do, what interesting things we have done. I will produce some fliers listing the books that are available in the library to have on the stall. We ahve general fliers. Maybe some thought could go into what other information would be good. How about your food map Juliet? Do we still have any good display materials? I have the boxes of stuff in my house but those A1 sheets Juliet printed are crumpled as they were not laminated. We need to find a structure - I think the gazebo we used last year might belong to Action21. How about some other "props" - I have some eco-insulation (hemp and cotton) i could bring a piece. The fahsion show dress? A laptop would be good to get people to sign in directly to the website. Dan will you be able to make your power system available? Mander Thiara has offered to provide some natural therapy treatments alongside the stall.
So can someone volunteer to lead on this and get more people involved... It could be a nice way to engage some 'silent' members of TTL.
THanks
Kath
Hello all,

Am happy to support, we do require some planning in advance..

i.e Who's attending, what are they promoting.

Schedule for the set up - do we have a Gazebo? literature stands and literature, other item such as notebooks etc.

Maybe an idea of who would like to attend and how much time they would like to give..?

Happy to support.

Thanks

Mander
